Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans
On Saturday, 30 March there will be an all day bar b que at the Veterans Memorial Building, 112 West Cabrillo Blvd. from 11:00 until 4:00 pm. This will be a Welcome Home Party for all Vietnam Veterans, Veterans of other wars, Active Duty Military and family and friends.
USAF Band in Free Concert
On Tuesday, May 7 the US Air Force Band will perform at the Granada Theatre at 7 p.m. This concert will be dedicated to and will honor all Veterans of the Korean War.

One hundred years of women’s aviation history was celebrated Saturday at the Santa Maria Museum of Flight as the Ninety-Nines Memorial Garden was dedicated.
Remembering a Golden Age
The war in the south pacific had begun to turn in favor of the allies. United States Navy Lt. Commander James P. Miller sat, feet strapped in, nervously at his anti-aircraft gun, waiting for the next wave of Japanese suicide planes to attack. Men scurried about high above on the flight deck, recovering aircraft and preparing to launch more. The date was October 30th, 1944 and the Belleau Wood was patrolling with her task group east of Leyte. The ship had been named for a location near Chateau Thierry, France, where U.S. Marines had fought a fierce battle in World War I, on June 6, 1918.
History of Brooks
Originally established as the Brooks Institute of Photography, Brooks Institute has a longstanding history that began when Ernest Brooks, Sr., founded the school in 1945 in Santa Barbara, Calif. Brooks, who served in the army air force during World War II as a procurement officer, developed a training program for bomber gunners in which he had them use cameras to “shoot” fighter planes, and the filmed results could then be evaluated.

Santa Barbara hosted the annual Veterans Day parade on November 11, 2012. This year, I was in the mass formation to capture the event. Before the mass formation, 2 Hueys flew over the parade route first.
